L&M Engines LM354S 5.8L Aluminum Short Block


Our LM354S short block package represents the culmination of our results driven design and race proven performance. The LM354S short block is built to be bulletproof under extreme conditions and meet the requirements of today’s racer. We are also mindful that many of our customers are not building full blown racecars and will routinely run their engines on the street under typical street conditions … final application is always important. The LM354S has been shown by our customers to hold up to and above 1500RWHP.

New 5.8L GT500 Aluminum Block

All new builds include a new Ford 5.8L GT500 aluminum engine block as used in the new GT500s directly from Ford.

If you would like to reuse your old block, please call or email us to obtain an updated quote since pricing will differ when using customer supplied engine components.


New 5.4L Cobra Jet Steel Crankshaft

New 5.4L Cobra Jet steel crankshaft. We have found the Cobra Jet crankshafts to be one of the strongest crankshafts available for this application with extensive race proven reliability. Double keyed by us as a standard feature (Can still be used with single key dampers).


Super Cobra Jet Oil Pump Housing with Triangle Speed Shop Billet Oil Pump Gears

Super cobra jet oil pump housings upgraded with Triangle Speed Shop billet oil pump gears is now standard on all our of our short block offerings.

Full Race Engine Prep

Every engine gets the full race preparation whether it’s destined for the street or the track.


  • Measure main bearing bores and alignment
  • Install honing stress plates to measure plasma spray cylinders for size and fit
  • Wash block for assembly
  • Install pistons on rods with locks and check clearances
  • Digitally balanced crankshaft
  • Polish crankshaft and check journal dimensions
  • Wash crankshaft for assembly
  • Precision file end gaps of piston rings for required application
  • Measure main & rod clearances, selective fit bearings for proper oil clearance, install bearings
  • Assemble Ford Modular engine to short block configuration
  • Review all dimensions & clearances
  • Final QA and inspection

Kenneth Polk’s 2013 GT500

During the March 2015 Texas Mile, the new guy, Kenny Polk and his 2013 GT500 broke the mile recording with an impressive run of 221.8 against a head wind. Also powered by one of our 5.8L long blocks it was able dethrone the previous record holder, which was also powered by one of our engines.


Kenny returned for the 2016 March Texas Mile where he was able to break the record again this time pushing his car to an impressive 232.4MPH run.



Derek Venable's 2013 Shelby GT500

Derek's car see's liberal street use, while being ran twice a year at the Texas Mile. In October 2014, his car put down an impressive 217.3MPH run with only a 3.6L Kenne Bell supercharger. Powered by a 5.8L L&M GT500 long block, his car recently dynoed at 1100 RWHP.



Jake Rowden’s GT500 built by Kinetik Motorsports

Kinetik Motorsport built this car to compete for the world record at the standing mile. Powered by a 5.8L L&M GT500 5.8L long block, this is a car to watch out for in 2015.



The Devil's Reject 2013 Shelby GT500

L&M built 5.8L long block. Previously a standard supercharged GT500, the devil's reject now runs a single Precision GEN2 Pro Mod 94 CEA turbo. During a recent dyno and tuning session, this car put down 1,439 RWHP and 1,348 RWTQ on 23 psi backed by a TH400 transmission. Brian ran a best of 7.7s @ 178.76MPH with a switch to a 76mm turbo and a best of 7.9s @ 173.54MPH in NMRA Renegade legal trim.



JW Brake's Shelby GT500 Super Snake

Powered by a 5.8L L&M GT500 long block, this super snake broke the world’s fastest standing mile record with a 220.8 MPH run back in 2012. The record still holds to this day, with many trying and ultimately failing (some scattering their engines across the runway while doing so). The record was finally broken by another one of our engine builds during the March 2015 Texas Mile.
